East Anglian Stories
We tell stories from across East Anglia, specialising in stories from the Fens of Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Norfolk. From boggarts to giants to grey goose feathers, the unique character of the Fenland and its people is reflected in the tales that have been passed down through the generations. We develop programmes of work relating to the stories which have involved:
Our favourite Fenland tales include the following:
Tom Hickathrift fought a terrible ogre on The Smeeth between Wisbech and King's Lynn
Mucky Porter, the pub landlord from Southery help King Charles I across the Fens
Black Sheet is a tale of murder and mystery set at The Ship Inn at Brandon Creek
In 2014 we delivered "The Enid Porter Project" which was a Heritage Lottery Funded project to re-invigorate the folklore collected by Enid Porter in five Cambridgeshire villages. As part of the project children visited the sites where some of the stories were based.
